Since the institute\u2019s inception, its \nresearch has focused on nucleic acids\u2014RNA and DNA. Research focuses on aspects \nrelated to the synthesis, structure, and function of these molecules, their interactions with \nother molecules, as well as potential practical applications, such as in biotechnology and \nmedicine. The research utilizes modern technologies such as NMR, X-ray crystallography, \nhigh-resolution microscopy, next-generation sequencing, CRISPR, and single-cell analysis. \nIn the search for new drugs, high-throughput screening is conducted, and potential \ntherapeutics are tested in model systems such as cell lines, organoids, viruses, nematodes, \nor mice.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7532248 e-con-full expand-content e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"7532248\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;jet_parallax_layout_list&quot;:[]}\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5c4340c elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5c4340c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IBCH PAS currently employs approximately 800 staff members, half of whom work at <\/span><b>the Pozna\u0144 Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC), which is affiliated with the \nInstitute<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Approximately 50 of these individuals are doctoral students enrolled in the Pozna\u0144 \nDoctoral School of the Institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In the most recent \nevaluation, the IBCH PAN was assessed in three disciplines, receiving the highest scientific \nratings: A+ in biological sciences, A+ in chemical sciences, and A in technical computer \nscience and telecommunications. The IBCH PAS extensive equipment and highly \nspecialized staff enable the implementation of nearly 200 projects annually. These efforts \nresult in, among other things, scientific publications, with an average of 180 produced each \nyear. To date, IBCH PAS staff and doctoral students have published over 2,700 articles in \njournals indexed in the Web of Science database.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Affiliated with the PSNC Institute, it serves as a key hub in the Polish and European scientific \nIT infrastructure. It provides information and communication technology support to other \nresearch centers in Poland and abroad and participates in numerous research and \ndevelopment projects. PSNC has built and manages the POZMAN Metropolitan Network, \ncomprising over 300 km of its own fiber-optic cables connecting all research institutions in \nPozna\u0144 and the surrounding area. Since 2001, it has been implementing the construction of \nthe PIONIER research network, which comprises 6,878 km of fiber-optic cables in Poland \nand 4,080 km in Europe, connecting Polish academic communities in 21 cities and 5 \nHigh-Performance Computing Centers (KDM). It currently offers the academic community \naccess to computing resources with a total capacity of 29.6 PFLOPS and data storage \ncapabilities of 48 PB. The PSNC houses a KDM center and one of six European quantum \ncomputers. AI Factories funded by the European Commission and the Polish government \nare also currently being built there.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><b>Genomics is one of the key areas of development at the IBCH PAS<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where genome analysis \ntechnologies were implemented relatively early on, first using microarrays (2004\/2005) and \nthen next-generation sequencing (2010\/2011). At that time, in collaboration with the Institute \nof Computer Science at Pozna\u0144 University of Technology, the Institute established the \nEuropean Center for Bioinformatics and Genomics (ECBiG), which carried out the first \nlarge-scale genomic project in Poland between 2016 and 2023. As part of the project, \napproximately 6,000 DNA samples were collected from residents of Poland. This resulted in \nthe creation of a reference database named <\/span><b>the Genomic Map of Poland<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the next project, ECBiG-MOSAIC<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mosaic.ichb.pl\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">https:\/\/mosaic.ichb.pl\/<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in cooperation with the Stefan Cardinal Wyszy\u0144ski \nNational Institute of Cardiology \u2013 State Research Institute in Warsaw (NIKARD) and the \nMaria Sk\u0142odowska-Curie National Institute of Oncology \u2013 State Research Institute \u2013 Gliwice \nUnit (NIO-PIB), approximately 4,000 DNA samples from cardiology and oncology patients \nwere collected and sequenced. In total, approximately 10,000 complete genomes of Polish \nresidents were collected, constituting the largest genomic data resource in the country to \ndate. It holds a Category A scientific classification in \nthe field of medical sciences and is authorized to award doctoral and postdoctoral degrees in \nmedical sciences in the discipline of medical biology. As the only center in Central and \nEastern Europe, the IHG PAS holds certification from 10X Genomics for spatial \ntranscriptomics analysis. The Institute also has a modern animal facility enabling advanced \nin vivo preclinical research. Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences \n(hereinafter the Nencki Institute) is one of Poland\u2019s leading research institutions, holding the \nhighest scientific category, A+, in the field of biological sciences. The Institute\u2019s activities \nfocus on three main areas: scientific research, technology transfer, and education. The \nInstitute conducts basic research in the field of biological sciences and is authorized to \naward doctoral and postdoctoral degrees in this field. The main focus of research is on new \ntherapies and diagnostic methods for neurodegenerative diseases, neurological disorders, \ncancer, diabetes, metabolic disorders, and other lifestyle-related diseases. Research is \nconducted in Warsaw and at the Institute\u2019s campus<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in Miko\u0142ajki, where the National Center \nfor Advanced Bioimaging Analysis is located. The Nencki Institute also fulfills its mission \nthrough collaboration with industry (including as part of the SPARK Poland initiative) and by \neducating future leaders in science, including through the Warsaw Doctoral School of Exact \nand Biomedical Sciences (Warsaw-4 -PhD) and the International Doctoral School of \nBiological Sciences and Translational Medicine (Bio4Med).<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Institute employs over 350 staff members, including leading experts in various fields of \nbiology and biomedicine. Research is supported by extensive technical facilities and service \nlaboratories offering, among other things, preclinical studies, flow cytometry, DNA \nsequencing, and a wide range of biological imaging capabilities, from electron microscopy to \nmagnetic resonance imaging.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Institute is involved in ambitious research projects funded by national and international \nsources. Over the past five years, it has completed and carried out more than 270 projects \nwith a total value of over 891 million PLN. It operates as a research institute with the highest, fourth-level \nreference status and plays a key role in both scientific research and postgraduate medical \neducation in cardiology.
